Most of us think of French food and we think of crepes or baguettes…..but there is so much more to it than that. I have discovered that French cuisine is a very delicate cuisine created with extreme finesse. Yes, there is a lot of butter in most dishes…but even the butter flavor shines and becomes integral part of the flavor profile.
Fairfield County is blessed with the presence of a very fine French restaurant called Restaurant Jean-Louis, located in Greenwich Connecticut. The chef and owner, Jean-Louis Gerin, is a winner of James Beard Foundation award for Excellence. I found him to be a funny, down-to-earth man with an easy smile. His cooking talent is in a class of its own. He manages to create extremely complex dishes presented with such creative simplicity. When a dish arrives at your table, it looks simple with not too many ingredients on the plate. Each ingredient is allowed to hold its integrity of flavor. Meats will be cooked to perfection. Vegetables shine with vivid colors and flavors. Sauces are clean. In my opinion, only genius can accomplish a task like that.
If you have not sampled this amazing talent, I highly recommend you do so.
We tried the Le Grand Tasting Menu – $69 per person. Wine was not included. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about wine selection.
Reservations are highly recommended.
