Indian-chinese restaurants are quite a phenomena in India. It’s the perfect blend of chinese food with an Indian twist. Indians are always on a quest to find this cuisine to remind them of home – no matter where they are in the world.
Well! I found one….right here in Fairfield county CT. Stamford to be exact. On the surface it looks like your average Indian restaurant. The name, “Chilli Chicken”. The decor …authentic Indian. And bollywood music playing in the background to complete the deceiving picture.
Then I got the menu….and words like “Momos”, “Vegetable Manchurian”, “Hakka Chilli Chicken” and “Shrimp Szechwan” started jumping out at me. Wait! could it be?….. is it? …..Damn! IT IS! It’s an Indian-Chinese place. What a find! I could not wait to try out their food.
Manchow soup was delicious! Almost like a Thai Tom Yum…but with fresh twist of coriander on top. (BTW: Coriander is one of those ingredients that brings every Indian happy memories of their homeland!)
I tried Hakka Chilli Chicken! YUM-O! Ooozing of garlic flavor and so was its smell! Ha! Ha! To accompany that, I ordered vegetable Chop Suey.
In my opinion, the chop-suey would have been better with a little less sweetness. But the crispy noodle at the bottom is always a nice surprise.
Entrees ranged from $10 – $16. So it’s a great place for people on a slightly tighter budget.
To all those adventurous eaters: I wish you would try this phenomena we call “Indian Chinese”.
