Most restaurants launch with tons of glitches and kinks that take time to get ironed out in the first few months. A flawless opening night is almost a myth in the restaurant industry. It is a rare occurrence, one which only the best of the best in the industry can execute. Chef Joel Robuchon is that person! And L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in New York is the restaurant where I witnessed a flawless opening night this week.
Did you know chef Robuchon holds the most Michelin stars in the world? Thirty one Michelin stars to be exact! Amazing, right? His stars span the globe just like his restaurants. His L’Atelier brand of restaurants around the world have the same signature. They are sexy and stylish in decor, impeccable in service and cutting edge in terms of the menu. The best of the best ingredients are sourced to create dining experience like none other. I have to admit that, very rarely do I experience a tasting menu where every single course excited me. This was one such meal. Oh! And the presentations were literally like the stuff foodie-dreams are made of!
The previous L’ Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Four Seasons Hotel New York had closed its doors in 2012. Since then, many savvy diners had silently prayed for the restaurant to be resurrected. Chef Robuchon finally heard their prayers!
I LOVED the intimate seating around the open kitchen. The staff was super warm and friendly and I enjoyed many fun conversations through the course of the evening. There are 2 tasting menus offered. A six course vegetarian menu priced at $145 including gratuity and a ten course seasonal discovery menu priced at $325 including gratuity. The prices may seem high but what you are getting is top notch ingredients served in the most amazing preparations and presentations. Heck! Some of the dishes they served food on, had 24 carat gold plating!
You can also order a la carte menu items if tasting menu is not your thing. If you are looking for a bit more casual dining experience, then look no further than Le Bar section of restaurant. This bar is sexy as hell … and dining on a more casual fare at the bar is not too shabby an alternative. This restaurant is perfect for a date night or to celebrate special occasions. I love the location which adds to the vibe, under the High Line, right behind Chelsea Market.
Since this is the hottest and the most anticipated new opening in New York city lately, reservations are highly recommended.
