The Latin Fusion Experience

Ever heard of Brasitas?  I hadn’t until recently.  I had driven past their Norwalk location millions of times and never realized that it was there.  Then recently my friend “Elbo” started reminding me to check it out.  So when CTbites organized a wine paired dinner at Brasitas, Norwalk – I jumped at the opportunity. 

This Latin-fusion style restaurant really surprised me. While their regular menu offers the usual favorites like Ceviche, Empanadas, Paella and more…this dinner showcased a very sexy version of Latin cuisine.  Painstakingly prepared and lovingly presented, each dish packed dynamite punches of flavors and textures.Brasitas in Norwalk and Stamford 

We started with Roasted Pumpkin-Coconut & Lemongrass Bisque, topped with Toasted Pepitas and Vermont Maple Syrup.   WOW!  I loved the harmony between sweetness of the pumpkin and the sharpness of the lemongrass.  The enhanced nuttiness and crunch of the toasted pepitas along with the maple syrup was the perfect topping.  Everyone at our table made sure that not one drop was left behind in their bowls. 

Next we were served Garrotxa Cheese Stuffed Black Mission Figs wrapped in Jamon Serrano w/Frisee Lettuce, Pine Nuts & Pedro Ximenez Vinagrette.  Crunchy and creamy, sweet and salty, nutty and cheesy – this was a great dish.  Bursting with Latin flavors and presented with contemporary flair and finesse. 

Slow Roasted Pork Belly with Red Chile Pozole and Avocado came next.  Perfectly done!  It had a lovely crunchy exterior with juicy interior that was just bursting with yummy flavor.  

Next course surprised us all.  A Corn Nut Crusted Yellow Fin Tuna with Kale, Maitake Mushrooms, Rutabaga Puree, Chile Ancho-Bone Marrow Bordelaise.  The description is quite a mouthful, isn’t it?  And the dish was a mouthful of heaven.  I loved the crunchy crust created by the corn nuts. The Tuna was perfectly done.  The mushrooms added a wonderful earthiness while the delicate and creamy rutabaga puree acted almost like a delicious, creamy glue to unite all these wonderful flavors.  The Bordelaise sauce was to die for, and we all wiped it clean off our plates. 

For the grand finale, the dessert course, we had a Pistachio and Marcona Almond Torte with Crema Fresca Ice Cream.  I fell in love with this lightly sweet dessert.  Brasitas in Norwalk and Stamford 

Brasitas offers a warm and casual atmosphere along with the authentic flavors of Latin America … with the volume turned up.
