I love Love LOVE farmers’ markets. And one in particular holds a very special place in my heart. The Westport Farmers’ Market, a brainchild of Paul Newman and chef Michel Nischan, has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception in 2006. It is a meeting ground for up to 45 incredible vendors, rockstar area chefs, friendly neighbors, chatty friends and die-hard foodies.
Today, it almost feels like a weekly festival in town. Every Thursday from 10-2, it brings wonderful organic produce from area farms and delicious prepared food and drink options from area purveyors – enough to make you wanna stay and not leave until the last tent is dismantled after market is closed. Boasting hundreds and hundreds of people in attendance each season, many on whom are regular visitors, situated at the scenic waterfront in downtown Westport, this is a truly magical place!
Now top it all off with entertainment from children’s programming to short plays to yoga to chef demos to so much more – and what you’ve got is a recipe for amazing-ness!
My favorite part about the Westport Farmer’s market, aside for the fresh produce, is hot Tamales from Boxcar Cantina and Cold Roman from the Raus Brothers. Aaaah! This is life at its best.
And when my belly if full, I love to feed my foodie-soul with chef demos that take place each week at the market. Everyone’s favorite local chefs and restaurants take turns and make an appearance for the chef demos each week from 10:15 – 11 am. It is a great opportunity to learn a thing or two from the masters in the art of cooking AND try a bite …or few of their delicious creations. If you haven’t visited the Westport Farmers’ Market – please do! You will thank me later. I am sure of it. 🙂
I am going to leave you with the incredible line up of chef demos this season. There are 26 demos scheduled this year! YAH! Twenty Six!!! What fun! What non-stop fun!!!
