After about a year and half of chasing down “the truck” all around Fairfield county … checking its status and location updates on the internet and social media, navigating the perpetually crowded roads and highways, meandering through area’s Farmers Markets on days when the truck was supposed to show up ….. this exhausted foodie is THRILLED that LobsterCraft has finally set up a brick and mortar shop in Darien! YAY!!!
Bursting with excitement soon after they opened, I could not wait to visit. So, I carefully watched my hectic schedule to find an opening to get there. And finally I saw my chance. It was a Monday morning, and I realized that it would be a great day to get out of work during lunchtime and treat myself to some hot buttered goodness on a roll.
Come noon-time, I got in the car and started driving – all the while chanting “I’m gonna get me a lobster roll!”, “I’m gonna get me a lobster roll!”, “I’m gonna get me a …..”. Traffic on 95 couldn’t phase me that day – I was on a mission. Alas, I finally got there only to realize that the place is closed on Mondays!!! Say what?!!!!
Heartbroken and devastated, I found myself even more motivated to have this experience. My lucky moment(s) finally arrived yesterday and today! Um… Yes! I went there two days in a row. Don’t judge me. :-/
The lobster rolls are so worth it…. delicious and perfect. I LOVE the bread rolls which have a delightfully light and airy quality that balances off the sweet and juicy meatiness of the lavish pieces of lobster. The lobster is always cooked just right by Captain Mike – NEVER-EVER too-chewy or over-done. It’s juices as well as the hot butter get absorbed by the rolls and the whole thing is pure finger-licking goodness! My favorite lobster roll on the menu is Heat Wave. It has just the right touch of spice!
I tried the hush puppies- corn bread fritters with lobster meat inside, served with chipotle mayo. Wow! I was amazed at the super crunchy layer on the outside which was not at all greasy and managed to stay crunchy until I drove back to work to share them with my co-workers. The chipotle mayo works so well with the sweetness of the corn bread. This is feel-good-food!
Lobster Tacos, currently on the menu, are summery and light. Just the perfect portion for a good lunch. I loved the delicate lime sauce on top – which accentuated the flavors of the lobster but did not overpower with too much tartness. Although I could have used a bit more of it on my tacos.
Watch out captain Mike, I may end up there again tomorrow – because I still need to try the Lobster and Kielbasa Mac & Cheese and the Lobster Bisque!
Captain Mike told me that the truck will continue to do its rounds all over Fairfield County and he is also opening another restaurant in NYC at 1 Penn Plaza. Although, he did promise to stay in the Connecticut location personally. I wish him tons of success with his ventures.
