… LOVED that sign at the entrance to a very special foodie destination in New York city. Eataly, has been around for a couple years now, yet this is the first time I had the pleasure of visiting it. A collaboration between Mario Batali and Joe Bastainich, Eataly is almost like a wondrous little Italian city in the heart of Manhattan.
Here you can do all your Italian-style food shopping from gorgeous cuts of all kinds of meat, fresh baked breads, fresh seafood, desserts, great selection of artisanal cheeses and cold cuts. Isles after isles are stocked up with a wide variety of Italian goodies like olive oils, pastas, balsamic vinegar …. You name it!
I loved the section where fresh pastas were being made right in front of the shoppers. It was fascinating to watch the deft hands of pasta makers, as they worked the dough into various shapes and sizes. To my delight, I noticed that all these fresh pastas were also for sale. I could not wait to bring some home and to toss them in some homemade sauces for a lovely dinner later that day.
Hungry to learn more about Italian food and wines? There is even a cooking school on premises. La Scuola Di Eataly, offers a wide range of cooking classes, wine paired dinners, chef’s table dinners and more. Some of the classes are being taught by everyone’s favorite Lidia Bastianich. I am sure to sign up for a class with her very soon.
My absolute favorite part about Eataly was the magnificent selection of restaurants one can eat at while visiting. I counted seven different restaurants offering different options and dining styles. La Piazza offers stand up option for food and drinks with tastings of salami, cheese, raw bar, beer and wine. Il Pesce is a seated counter and table area that serves raw bar and seafood version of Italian antipasto. Le Verdure is a seated counter offering Italian style vegetable dishes including soups. La Pasta is a seated area for a lovely selection of pasta dishes. Manzo offers a formal dining experience while La Birreria is a rooftop restaurant and brewery. Panzo, is Eataly’s newest addition. It is an extension of La Scuola and focuses on educating diners throughout their meal. Then there is a Gelateria and a Pasticceria to satisfy your sweet cravings. Café Lavazza at the very end serves up fresh coffee and pastries.
