When Food Becomes A Work Of Art

Situated in the picture perfect village of Southport, Artisan is a wonderful hidden gem that I am glad to know about. With gorgeous indoor and outdoor seating, this place is Tres Chic! Warm and wonderful staff and stunning looking food makes it an experience not to be missed.

Chef Kieffer, the artisan himself, is a master at his craft. He skillfully transforms each dish into a work of art. Maybe that is why the restaurant got its name. You can’t help but take a moment to just look at each plate and its artful presentation.

As I started to write this review, I thought to myself that a lot of words would be just too blah for a restaurant of this calibre! So let me tell you this story with less words and more pictures…..

First up we had the grilled calamari with green tomato and mustard seed relish. Beautifully and delicately flavored, this dish is to die for. Even the delicate fennel in this dish managed to shine ….

Then we proceeded to order the sea scallops with salsify puree, foraged mushroom, truffle-madeira reduction. These perfectly cooked scallops were absolutely hard to resist ….

Next up was local black sea bass with squash-fingerling-leek casserole, chorizo-clams jus. The chorizo-clam jus gave this dish such depth of flavor, I found myself scooping every drop off the plate. This is a must try….

Last entree we tried was the crusted fluke with mushrooms, grapes, whipped parsnip, aged wine sauce….

Finally, for dessert we could not resist the chocolate ganache cake with pistachio ice cream. It was so light and creamy. It came with a perfect little truffle on the side. Pure chocolatey decadence…
