Gourmet food truck culture has taken over the nation by a storm. Gone are the days when all you could find was hot dog or pretzel stand at street corners .This new wave has redefined the culinary landscape.
Amazing gourmet food is now being served-up all over the big cities. In most cases, it is being served up by home-grown chefs who have not necessarily earned degrees at renowned culinary institutes….but they do know their food. Personally, I feel that it adds a certain level excitement for the lunch time crowds who may not necessarily have the luxury of time but they also don’t want to compromise on what they eat.
For years, I have been dreaming of the gourmet food truck scene coming to Fairfield County. Let’s face it, it is not practical to schlep to NYC every time you want to check out the savory eats at the food trucks. No! us foodies deserve our own selection in Fairfield County. YEAH!
I had heard about the Christophe’s Crepes coming to downtown Fairfield, and I just had to check it out. I had also heard that Christophe is only there on days when it is not raining, and between 12 Noon and 2 PM. Yesterday was a gorgeous day and I just knew that Christophe will be there and so I had to be there too!
Conveniently situated right outside the Fairfield Public Library on Post Rd, the big yellow truck was a delightful sight to see! I eagerly parked right in front of it and rushed to the window. Christophe is a very friendly man eager to make your crepe adventure memorable. He suggested the gorgonzola, pear and walnut crepe. It sounded divine and I had to try it. You know how gorgonzola is usually chunky with a delicious yet very dominating flavor? Well, Christophe melted the cheese just right so that he could evenly distribute its goodness in every fold of the crepe. Delicate little pieces of fresh pear and walnuts were the perfect crunchy and sweet (yet not too sweet since it was a savory crepe) pairing with the cheese. The size of the crepe and the amount of the filling was perfect for lunchtime portion. The crepes themselves are just the right amount of chewiness and buttery softness.
I absolutely love dessert crepes, and I had to have me some. I ordered a chocolate and banana crepe to eat right there and one nutella to go! Yes, I did! I loved the quality of chocolate - perfectly rich and creamy and how well it goes with the delicate flavor and texture of the crepe! HEAVEN!
Christophe’s Crepes are a must eat. And it must make it on everyone’s must-eat list! If you are driving from far, be sure to call Christophe ahead of time to confirm that he will be there. 646.596.6879. And when you see Christophe, be sure to ask for his customer appreciation card that gets you a free crepe for every 6 crepes you purchase.
Bon Appetit!
