When I first landed on the east coast I lived in a suburb of Philadelphia. There, I instantly fell in love with Philadelphia’s pride and joy: the Philly Cheese Steak!
Those of you who have been to Philadelphia would know about the historical rivalry between two competing restaurants: Pats and Genos. Each claims that their cheese Steak is the ultimate. Which is better? Hard to say. Each has its own gigantic and loyal fan base. Did you know that the two businesses are literally across the street from each other in South Philadelphia, and have been there for years? And the battle continues…
I also love the Philly Cheese Steak’s younger sibling: the Pizza Steak. Ever tried it? It is yum!
There is something so special about these sandwiches. The bread roll is one of the most critical elements in a perfect Cheese Steak or Pizza Steak. It is soft and light…not the hard rolls that you typically find up here. It’s like this bread roll’s only job is to create a light blanket around the juicy meaty goodness inside without overpowering it, instead allowing it all to shine!
Well hold on to your hats, Fairfield County. In comes Tim’s Philly Steaks! Delicious Cheese Steaks and Pizza Steaks complete with authentic bread being brought up from Philadelphia. It’s a small place with a simple menu…but if you are true Philly Steak fan, you won’t need much else.
While it is not Pats or even Geno’s, I think the sandwich caliber is pretty close to authentic. You must check this place out. Tim’s Philly Steaks is centrally located on 336 Westport Ave in Norwalk.
Let me know what you thought.
