Happy news everyone! My favorite lunch spot now also serves dinner!!!
Aux Delices in Westport is now also open for dinner from Tuesdays through Saturdays. Last night was their opening night and my family and I had the pleasure of getting the first taste of their dinner menu.
If you have been to Aux Delices at any of their locations in Connecticut, you would know that their food is perfection! I am madly in love with their Ham and Gruyere Quiche as well as their Chocolate Mousse. (Did you see the awesome shot of the mousse I posted on my Facebook page and Twitter a few weeks ago?). So when Greg (Deborah Ponzek’s husband), the owner, emailed me yesterday to ask me if I could join in their opening night celebration, I said “Heck Yes!!!”
Aux Delices Bistro has taken the same finesse that they demonstrate in their breakfast and lunch menu – turned it up a few notches and created a delightful dinner menu. The menu is small, but that won’t matter because every dish is a beautiful showcase of all the ingredients that went into it. These complex compositions on the dinner plates come together as a party in your mouth with each bite. The small but carefully hand-selected wine menu is sure to meet your needs as well.
Greg insisted that we try his favorite appetizers and so we did. The Poached Organic Egg with Edamame, Merguez Sausage, Celery Root Puree and Thyme is a total wow! You would not get over the smooth texture of the egg and the wonderful flavor punch of the sausage until the last bite. This is a must try.
The Beet Tian with Sheep Milk Ricotta, Bull’s Blood Greens and Aged Balsamic will make you say “OMG! How divine!” I simply loved the creamy and smooth cheese complimented by the tangy balsamic and sweet beets. This is one gorgeous dish to look at as well as to savor! Another must try!
Greg’s favorite is the Tuna Carpaccio with Nicoise Cobb Salad and Black Olive Vinaigrette. One bite and I knew why. The tuna is exceptionally fresh. The black olive flavor adds just the perfect salty bite to bring out the beautiful flavor of the tuna.
For our main entrée we ordered three dishes. The Snapper au Pistou with White Beans, Leeks, Zucchini, Squash and Basil Pesto was done exceptionally well. Of all the entrees this was my favorite. The snapper in this dish was given respect it deserves. Its subtle flavor was not overwhelmed but instead enhanced by the wonderful medley of vegetables and the delicate basil pesto.
Steak Frites with Brandy Demiglaze and Roasted Garlic Aioli was excellent. The meat was cooked perfectly and the brandy demiglaze and garlic aioli were its perfect compliment.
The third entrée we got was Grilled Lamb Sirloin with Baba Ghanoush served with Hot Chopped Salad of Red Onion, Cherry Tomatoes, Nicoise Oilves and Croutons. What an unusual dish this was, and I realized that I really liked the combination of these ingredients and their flavors.
We ended our meal with Crème Brulee (YUM!) …. and one of the tastiest cups of coffee I have ever had. They serve Kobricks Organic Coffee. They also have a great selection of specialty teas.
The head chef in this kitchen is Lisa Vernburg. Lisa’s expert dishes and the wonderfully warm and attentive staff will make your evening one to remember. Hope you check them out very soon!
