On a beautiful day, one of my favorite past-times in New York city is strolling down the spectacular High Line park, taking in the gorgeous water and city views from this totally unique vantage point, and then stepping off around 16th street to walk right into the Chelsea Market for some delicious sustenance.
Over the years, I have identified my must-eats…. Let’s start with Fat Witch Bakery, shall we? I mean, have you tried their brownies? They are totally addictive! Stroll down just a bit and end up at The Lobster Place for all treats seafood! Here you can order a freshly steamed lobster or a bowl of clam chowder, or fresh sushi to enjoy right then and there. You may choose to pick up some caviar to enjoy with your honey later that evening or purchase some fresh seafood to cook a romantic meal together. I love standing at their raw bar and ordering from an incredible variety of shucked-to-order oysters. Feeling stuffed? OK, how about a short walk across the hall to Buon Italia market for some amazing varieties of imported italian treats, meats, and cheeses. You get the picture, right?
With home to The Cooking Channel and The Food Network offices upstairs and all the amazing foodie destination on the ground floor - the Chelsea Market is quite the Mecca for foodies like me.
In the last few visits, I have noticed a lot of changes. Good changes. They have expanded quite a bit. Lots of new eateries and stores have found home in this building- in nooks and crannies I did not even realize existed. Just browse this link and interactive map to get the complete picture:

Morimoto! Los Tacos No 1! Bar Suzette! Doughnuttery! Tacumi! Ahhhmazing!
In my last visit, however, I beelined for a new eatery I have been following on Instagram. This little place is causing quite a stir on social media! Mokbar! They offer Korean Street food like multiple varieties of Ramen, small plates as well as Kimchi. Yum!
Most of the items on this menu were super unusual and tempting. How does disco fries with ramen gravy, cheese curd, kimchi and nori sound to you? I can’t even imagine that flavor combination without trying it first hand. For my first visit, I decide to stick to their signature menu items: Classic Ramen and the Ho’ Cake (crispy bun filled with heavenly pork belly). Both were incredibly good with all the classic street food attributes: hot, spicy, flavorful, rich and deeply satisfying! I can’t wait to go back and try more things… like the selection of Kimchi!
But I also noticed a long line at Los Tacos No 1 right across from Mokbar. So perhaps that’s gotta be my target on the next visit. Or maybe both? Hmmm….. that’s food for thought! ![]()
