Old world charm with a contemporary twist! That about sums up the vibe of this recent addition to our suburban dining scene. Inn at Pound Ridge boasts a history dating back to the 1800’s. Surrounded by the pristine beauty, which is the essence of New England landscape, it needed some tender loving care in recent years. How utterly amazing that a world-famous chef like Jean-Georges Vongerichten decided to take on that incredible task and prove that he can excel at it.
I loved the drive up to The Inn At Pound Ridge- which actually does not take so long from the heart of Fairfield County. I loved how beautifully and immaculately the inn has been restored and revived. All the beautiful dark wood tones accented beautifully with subtle lighting. So country yet so modern. What a beautiful marriage!
Most importantly, I loved the style and calibre of food being served at this restaurant. The menu is a spectacular vision of chef Jean-Georges being perfectly executed by the fabulous team of chef de cuisine Blake Farrar and his pastry chef/wife Melody.
The food was earthy and rustic but undoubtedly prepared with contemporary flair. Every dish was composed with balance of flavors and textures in mind. Like the incredibly addictive Foie Gras Brûlée for instance. Ah! A gorgeous GORGEOUS bite of food! The buttery rich foie gras was topped with a cinnamon brûlée and served with spiced fig jam on the side. This is a must-try for all you foie-gras lovers out there! I enjoyed this yummy creation with a Passion Chili Whiskey Fizz cocktail - and the combination created fireworks of flavors in my mouth. My palate came alive and I wanted more!
The entrees are hearty and well executed. The Roasted Lamb Chop with Smoked Chili Glaze was exceptional! So was the Caramelized Beef tenderloin. Next time I visit, I must try the Maine Lobster Roasted in The Shell with Oregano and Chili - doesn’t that sound divine? Our server also told us that the Parmesan Crusted Organic Chicken is not a dish easily forgotten.
By dessert time, everyone at my table was pretty full - but the desserts looked very homey and welcoming. I mean, who can say “no” to a slice of pie or a cookie or a sundae or even glazed doughnuts?!!! Honey Cheesecake Pie anyone? Well we could not resist and happily we were not disappointed. It is amazing how you can convince your belly that it has more room left for dessert - even when a few minutes ago it clearly told you it did not! ![]()
(Sorry folks: the pictures are crappy. The restaurant was dimly lit and I hate to use flash in restaurants)
