The Bold And The Flavorful

Rosa Mexicano has been an institution in New York since the early 1980‘s. Accomplishing the unthinkable, it introduced authentic Mexican cuisine with a contemporary twist and turned it into an elegant dining experience- way back when we wouldn’t have considered Mexican cuisine as an upscale dining option. Pulling from the core of Mexican culture, every nuance of the restaurant- its decor, server’s uniforms, servings dishes, and of course the food - shouts out bold colors and flavors. As soon as you enter, your senses will excite and the aromas will beckon you in.

For a foodie like me, one … Continue Reading ››

A Cooking Trend Gaining Momentum

I am all excited about a cooking trend that originated in laboratories, in the recent years it has spread out to high-end restaurants, and is finally making its way into home kitchens. It's a technique that employs exact science to create consistent and perfect results each and every time.

Most of us like to cook and experiment with recipes. If nothing else, we all look forward to putting a burger or a piece of steak on the grill during summer months. Yet, most of the time, we settle for not-so-perfect final results. Our steaks or poultry can … Continue Reading ››

Understanding the Science of Cooking

I am left enthralled, animated, educated, excited, mesmerized, inspired, hungry for more and quite simply ... in-awe, after auditing a 10 week online course presented by Harvard University last fall. The course was called Science and Cooking.

What initially got my attention was the roll call of chefs that were to be part of this lecture/demonstration series. Names like Ferran Adria (El Bulli), Jose Andres (ThinkFoodGroup), Dan Barber (Blue Hill), Joan Roca (El Celler de Can Roca), Nathan Myhrvold (Modernist Cuisine), Wylie Dufrsene … Continue Reading ››

Little Goose Big Flavors

This newcomer made me do a double-take with its unusual flavor pairings and bold menu choices. A relatively small space overflowing with charm and character, Little Goose in Fairfield is far from the dull and the ordinary.

It was good to meet up with my bestie H.A. after weeks! We had so much catching up to do, and we totally knew that we would be talking non-stop throughout lunch. Jobs. Life. Family. Gossip ... so much ground to cover!

Little did we … Continue Reading ››

The Ramen-Pho Conundrum!!

Ramen or Pho? Pho or Ramen? The questions kept buzzing in my head as soon as I settled down to order and eat at Mecha Noodle Bar in Fairfield. What shall I order? Everything looks so very tempting on this menu with plenty of versions of Pho as well as Ramen to choose from. Over the years, both Pho and Ramen have stolen my heart. I find it really hard to say “No”, if I see either of them on any menu. So when I come across a menu that offers them both - Well! then, what I … Continue Reading ››

I Shook Hands With Alice Waters!

... now that I have your attention, let me tell you all about it. Last week I had the rare privilege to attend an intimate conversation with Alice Waters of the famous Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkley CA. This was an event with only 100 some people hosted by the Hudson Union Society in NYC. My friend, KW, is a member and that’s how I got invited.

Alice Waters is a pioneer, an activist, a believer, a forward thinker and a fabulous chef all rolled into in one petite, beautiful frame. I had first heard of … Continue Reading ››

Weeknights Made Easy!

I recently started a new job and all of a sudden life has become totally crazy! Full day in a fast-paced work environment. Long, slow, traffic-ridden commutes - mornings and evenings. Total mental and physical exhaustion. After all that, the last thing I want to think about is- putting dinner on the table. Sure, I can simplify my stress and order take-out - but I always worry about how unhealthy that lifestyle tends to be. Besides, do I really want to order-in EVERY night?!!! Nah! Wouldn’t it be lovely if my magical foodie-fairy would just drop in every evening- prepare a wonderful, … Continue Reading ››

My New Favorite Chinese Place!

Ahhhmazing!!!!

I loved the spicy, sweet, peanutty, tangy, flavors married with incredible textural contrasts and and super-moist bites, after bites after bites! What a find! Lao Sze Chuan in Milford CT is really a must-do for everyone who would like to know what Chinese food should taste like.

I went there for lunch with my gal-pal Archie. While it was just the two of us, we had an unspoken understanding that we WILL be ordering a lot of food - to get a really comprehensive experience of what this restaurant is all about. And so we ordered. And … Continue Reading ››
